APPLICATION PROCESS

A completed application packet includes:

  • Student Application
  • High School or GED transcript
  • NET test results (must have minimum of 42 in Math and 51 in Reading)
  • Three letters of recommendation (Work references preferred but character references accepted)
  • One-page paper stating “Why I want to be a Nurse”

All of this may be submitted by mail or in person to our Student Services office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

Once the application deadline has passed, all completed applications will be reviewed and the candidates to be interviewed will be selected. If you are selected for interview, you will be notified by phone. The class will be selected based on the interviews.

Enrollment information

Those who possess a high school diploma or a GED, are 18 years of age or older, and pass the NET with a minimum score of 51 in reading and a 42 in math may apply for admission. Classes are formed on a yearly basis and filled with whose who successfully complete the screening process.

 COURSE DESCRIPTION AND COURSE OBJECTIVES

The Practical Nursing Program provides the theory and skills necessary to perform as an entry level practical nurse upon successful completion. Instruction is provided through lecture, demonstrations, and practice. Clinical assignments are completed in local area medical facilities. Through clinical rotations, students are exposed to the care of persons in a variety of settings such as medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetrical, geriatrics and psychiatric care. Clinical experience provides the students the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for the practice of nursing and for providing the foundation for continuing, personal growth and development.

Students who successfully complete the Practical Nurse Diploma program are eligible to sit for licensure. Licensure may be awarded by the State of Tennessee after satisfactorily passing the NCLEX-PN exam. This exam is administered and approved by the National Council on State Boards of Nursing. Individuals with previous criminal convictions may not be eligible for licensure.
